That’s right. This mural pays homage to the Orange Grove Plunge, a public pool that used to be here. Wouldn’t it be so fun if that was still there?
Check out the mural. The depiction of a person of color in that mural is ironic, considering the city faced charges of racial discrimination regarding the pool in a 1955 law suit.
Initially when it opened the city allowed non-residents to use the pool regularly, but later rescinded the invitation, granting admission only to residents and guests, a rule that was applied arbitrarily, usually based on the skin color of prospective attendees – a sad testament to racism in our city.
