Call for Entries

SPHS Students:

Showcase your creativity and talent by expressing your interpretation of this year’s theme,

I Matter Because…

All entries must be received by October 15, 2020   Contest rules and entry forms are available at Print out the Student Packet (carefully follow the rules for each category, then completely fill out the entry, except the PTSA info box).

All entries must be original pieces, and not created for a different contest or classroom assignment. Follow the program rules for each category, consider the following criteria, and have fun bringing your imagination to life! Email digital files to

This year you can enter as many pieces as you want from one or more of the 6 categories listed below:

* Dance Choreography
* Film Production
* Literature
* Music Composition (Music Notation is Required)
* Photography
* Visual Arts

Review Criteria:

Interpretation: How the piece relates to the theme (I Matter Because…) based on the artwork itself and the artistic statement.

Creativity: Creativity and originality in its conception and presentation of the theme.

Technique: Level of skill demonstrated in the techniques of the artist’s chosen category/categories.

Labeling of Artwork: Make sure to label all original artwork with the standard format shown below:

State. Art Category. Grade Division. Last name. First Name
Example: CA.Dance.HighSchool.Smith.Nancy

College Talk

Jeffrey Oh, SPHS junior and Region 9 (LA County) President for the California Association of Student Councils, invites SPHS upperclassmen to this college talk webinar fundraiser on September 12. CASC alumni will speak about their college admissions process and other key information. Aimed for seniors who were unable to visit colleges this summer, the event will feature students from a range of top universities such as UC Berkeley, Georgetown, and USC.

Know Your Rights

The SPHS Speech and Debate team is organizing Know Your Rights as a community program for participants to understand the importance of voting rights. It is tailored as a resource for the community to take advantage of in the wake of the upcoming presidential election. People of any age, background, or experience can participate!
