SPHS to Hold Forum on Teen Depression and Risk Factors for Suicide
Information session for parents of high schoolers
A parent forum called “Teen Depression and Risk Factors for Suicide” will be held at South Pasadena High School on Monday, February 26 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. This information session will be facilitated by the SPUSD Student Support Counseling staff who will teach parents about signs for depression and suicidal ideation and where to go for help.
Facilitators Nancy Goldstein, district school neuropsychologist and Natasha Prime, the district’s “Train Your Brain” specialist, along with Dennis Lefevre, Executive Director of Student Support Services promise an evening that helps parents understand the warning signs and risk factors that may result in depression in teens. School stress and anxiety will also be covered. “..Depression is often the result of unaddressed anxiety,” says Lefevre who notes that teens often are faced with stressors that parents may not readily notice.
Graduating seniors who are PTA members are eligible to apply for the California State PTA $500 1st District PTA Commemorative Scholarship
An SPHS candidate will be chosen to compete at the 1st District level for one of several $500 Commemorative Scholarships. This is a good opportunity for students who have overcome adversities or hardships, held a job, or managed extra home responsibilities. Applications may be picked up in the SPHS Counseling Center, and are due to Ms. Dominique no later than 3:00pm on March 16th.

Everything will have to be brought to the Teachers’ Lounge on the morning of Thursday December 7th by 10 am. Or if it is non perishable, the labeled item could also be dropped off the afternoon prior, before the office closes at 4pm. Monetary donations can be dropped off in the office labeled “STAFF APPRECIATION” at anytime. But please email us (Lori Davis Denny or Lauren Schwab) if you have done that so we know to expect your generous contribution.
