Dear SPHS Parents,
We hope that you are enjoying the beginning of Spring. To give the SPHS teachers and staff our appreciation as they roll into Spring Break, we will be hosting a Spring Luncheon on Thursday, March 29.
The Spring Luncheon will consist of a healthy salad bar. The salad greens have been generously donated and we are asking you to help supply the delicious toppings. If you have not yet had the opportunity to donate, your donation will be very welcomed on March 29th. Click here to sign up to donate a food item or a monetary contribution.
These items will have to be dropped off to the Teachers’ Lounge on the morning of Thursday, March 29th by 10:00am. If it is a non-perishable item, it could be labeled “Teacher Appreciation” and dropped off the afternoon prior, before the office closes at 4:00pm.
Monetary donations can be dropped off at the office labeled “Teacher Appreciation PTSA”at anytime. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have dropped off a monetary donation at the office.
Thank you all again for celebrating our wonderful staff!

SPHS to Hold Forum on Teen Depression and Risk Factors for Suicide
Information session for parents of high schoolers
A parent forum called “Teen Depression and Risk Factors for Suicide” will be held at South Pasadena High School on Monday, February 26 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. This information session will be facilitated by the SPUSD Student Support Counseling staff who will teach parents about signs for depression and suicidal ideation and where to go for help.
Facilitators Nancy Goldstein, district school neuropsychologist and Natasha Prime, the district’s “Train Your Brain” specialist, along with Dennis Lefevre, Executive Director of Student Support Services promise an evening that helps parents understand the warning signs and risk factors that may result in depression in teens. School stress and anxiety will also be covered. “..Depression is often the result of unaddressed anxiety,” says Lefevre who notes that teens often are faced with stressors that parents may not readily notice.
All South Pasadena High School parents are invited to attend. There will be a short PTSA business before the forum at 6:30 pm. The forum begins at 7 pm with a question and answer session at the end.
The PTSA wanted to ensure that the wonderful Teachers and Staff of SPHS keep healthy in the New Year with a small “Winter Survival Kit” that included: tissues, lip balm, lotion, hand sanitizer and Emergen-C.
Please join us at the SPHS PTSA General Meeting on Monday, January, 29, 2018, at 6:30 PM, at the SPHS Library.
